Conifer Movers: Residential and Local Moving Along the US-285 Corridor

Conifer sits along US-285, roughly 30 miles southwest of our office at 2115 W 14th Ave and about 3,100 feet higher. Many homes are set back in the trees, up a gravel road or a private drive, on lots where the front door can be well above or below the spot where a truck can park. We’re a veteran-owned Conifer moving company, in business since 2004, and we plan every Conifer move around the road, the driveway and the weather.

US-285 is a state highway that CDOT maintains. From September 1 through May 31, Colorado requires commercial trucks rated 16,001 pounds or more to carry chains or an approved alternative on it west of Morrison. Highway 73, a Jefferson County road, links Conifer with Evergreen, and roads such as Pleasant Park Road lead into the neighborhoods. Conifer is unincorporated, so Jefferson County rules apply. The County plows its roads by priority, and private roads are up to their owners. Elk Creek Fire Protection District covers Conifer and Aspen Park, and in dry spells the Sheriff’s Office can put fire restrictions in place.

Our crews pack, load and move homes of every size, including pianos, pool tables and antiques that need a custom crate. We also handle long-distance moves that start in Conifer, and we serve Aspen Park, Pine, Buffalo Creek, Pine Junction and Bailey. If your closing and move-in dates don’t match, we have short-term, climate-controlled storage for a few days to a few weeks. You pay by the hour under Fair Clock Pricing, or a contract price if we agree on one. There are no extra fees for stairs, long carries, taking furniture apart or elevators. Estimates are free: call (720) 297-9904 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. any day, or add a walkthrough video to our quote form.

Meet Our Founder

“I started moving furniture when I was 18, and a move up US-285 to Conifer still gets my full attention. A foothills move here isn’t a city move with more miles. It’s private roads, long driveways and weather that can change before lunch.

Jefferson County plows its main roads first and doesn’t plow private roads, so we ask about your road and driveway at the estimate. Our trucks carry chains in season, and on moving day we check CDOT’s road alerts before we leave Denver. Moving to Aspen Park or Pine Junction instead? Same careful plan.

Fischer Van Lines has been in business since 2004, and I’m a United States Navy veteran. Our Conifer movers give you a free estimate, explain the drive-time charge up front and show up when we say we will.”

Frequently asked questions about moving in Conifer

Our Conifer home is up a long gravel road. Can a big moving truck get there?

It depends on the road, so we’d rather see it first. Jefferson County alone maintains 651 lane miles of gravel road in its unincorporated areas, and private drives add more. What matters is the grade, the width, the tight turns and whether a truck can turn around at the top. Film the drive from the county road to your door and send it with our free quote form. Usually our larger trucks make it. If one can’t, we send a smaller truck, which runs at a lower rate; a second truck adds a gas fee, and your quote spells it out. Otherwise the crew parks lower and carries from there. There’s no long-carry fee.

Rarely. Our trucks carry chains in season, and we get out there and get it done. Still, it helps to know the road rules. US-285 is a state highway that CDOT maintains. In storms, CDOT can put the Traction Law or Chain Law into effect on any state highway. From September 1 through May 31, Colorado also requires commercial trucks rated 16,001 pounds or more to carry chains, or an approved alternative, on US-285 west of Morrison. That includes the stretch through Conifer. Check road conditions on COtrip.org the night before. If the forecast looks bad, call us at (720) 297-9904. We answer from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

If it’s a county road, Jefferson County plows it in priority order: main roads first, then collectors and school bus routes, then residential streets, with cul-de-sacs last. The County says one route takes at least 12 hours after the snow stops, and in the mountains it doesn’t plow from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Residential roads and cul-de-sacs up here get plowed when snow seriously blocks traffic and no thaw is expected within 72 hours. Private roads are up to their owners. When a move is billed by the hour, a plowed road and a shoveled path save time.

A clear address sign and good directions. Elk Creek Fire Protection District, which covers Conifer and Aspen Park, offers reflective address signs so emergency crews can find homes faster. A sign at the end of your drive helps a moving truck find the turn, too. When you ask for a quote, tell us about shared driveways or turns that GPS gets wrong, or film the approach from the main road in your walkthrough video. Our phone, (720) 297-9904, is answered from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

When the County sign-offs are in sight. If your lot is in Jefferson County’s wildland-urban interface, the Wildfire Resiliency Code that took effect July 1, 2026 requires a defensible-space inspection by a County-approved Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, once before the work and again when it’s done. After the final inspection passes, the specialist tells the County so the permit can move forward. If your move-in date slips, we offer short-term, climate-controlled storage for a few days to a few weeks. Ask about it when you request your free quote.

Learn the three alert words. In July 2026, Jefferson and Clear Creek counties adopted standard terms. An Order means leave immediately. A Warning means there’s a significant threat, so be ready to go. Shelter in Place means go inside and close the doors and windows. Sign up your new address for LookoutAlert, the County’s free emergency notices. In dry spells, the Sheriff’s Office can also enact fire restrictions in unincorporated areas. If an alert changes your moving plans, call us at (720) 297-9904, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. any day.

You pay by the hour under Fair Clock Pricing, or a contract price if we agree on one. Conifer is roughly 30 miles from our office at 2115 W 14th Ave by way of US-285, and about 3,100 feet higher. A drive-time charge covers the trip out and back, usually a half hour to an hour each way, depending on your address. Every quote, by phone or email, lists each charge. There are no stair, long-carry, disassembly or elevator fees, and the estimate is free. Call (720) 297-9904, or add a walkthrough video or video link to our quote form, so we can see the drive, the rooms and the big pieces.

Yes. In Denver, our apartment movers work in walk-ups and high-rises, plan around elevator reservations and loading docks, and provide a certificate of insurance when the building asks for one. We do weekend apartment moves, too. At the Conifer end, plan for the last stretch of road. In the mountains, Jefferson County doesn’t clear packed snow and ice from residential roads that passenger cars can still drive. In winter, tell us about your road when you book. Reserve the building’s elevator early and give us its time window.
