Gunbarrel is the unincorporated community northeast of Boulder along the Diagonal Highway (CO 119). Boulder County says it takes its name from Gunbarrel Road, the old stagecoach route between Boulder and Longmont. Many addresses here read “Boulder, CO 80301,” but most Gunbarrel homes are not in the City of Boulder. The City’s own Gunbarrel plan puts the business area around Lookout Road, Spine Road and 63rd Street inside city limits. Most homes to the east and south, in neighborhoods like Heatherwood, Gunbarrel Estates and the streets around Twin Lakes, fall under Boulder County.

That matters on moving day. On county streets, Boulder County’s parking ordinance applies, the Sheriff’s Office enforces it, and plows reach subdivision streets after the main roads. Homes run from early-1960s ranch houses in Gunbarrel Estates to the denser housing next to the business area, and many neighborhoods have their own HOA. The main routes are the Diagonal, 63rd Street, Lookout Road, Spine Road and Jay Road. Our office at 2115 W 14th Ave in Denver is about 33 miles away by I-25, US 36 and the Diagonal.

Meet Our Founder

“Gunbarrel is named for the old Gunbarrel Road, the stagecoach route between Boulder and Longmont, and today the Diagonal carries most of the traffic. Many homes have a Boulder address, but whether you’re inside city limits or in unincorporated Boulder County changes the rules.

Neighborhoods like Gunbarrel Estates, with its 1960s ranch homes, have active HOAs, and some covenants limit how long a truck or trailer can stay. CDOT’s work on the Diagonal near 63rd Street has also changed traffic, so we check the week’s notices before moving day.

Gunbarrel is a drive from our Denver office, and the drive-time charge is spelled out in your quote. I started moving furniture at 18, I’m a United States Navy veteran, and our Gunbarrel movers will handle your move like it matters, because it does.”

Frequently asked questions about moving in Gunbarrel

Our address says Boulder, but we're in Gunbarrel. Whose rules apply on moving day?

It depends on which side of the city line your home is on. The City of Boulder’s Gunbarrel plan puts the business area around Lookout and Spine roads inside city limits, while most homes east and south of it are in unincorporated Boulder County. There, county ordinances apply and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office enforces parking. Type your address into Boulder County’s Property Search to see which side you’re on. Inside city limits, City of Boulder rules apply; see our Boulder movers page. On either side, we’re the same licensed and insured mover, Colorado PUC HHG-00124.

Not for long on a county street. Boulder County’s parking ordinance treats a vehicle as abandoned once it sits in one spot on public property for more than 72 hours, and trailers count as vehicles. Re-parking it within 700 feet during the same 24 hours doesn’t restart the clock. The exception is an operable vehicle registered to an unincorporated Boulder County address and parked within 700 feet of it. Also keep any vehicle 5 feet from driveways and 10 feet from fire hydrants. If you rent your own truck or trailer, our loading and unloading help can load it. For Denver and 25 nearby cities, see our moving truck and container rules guide.

It can after a big storm. Boulder County plows high-volume roads and school bus routes first. Since 2024 it has focused its crews on the roads with the most traffic, and after a substantial snowfall, plows may reach subdivisions once the snow has stopped and the priority 1 and 2 roads are safe. The county also asks residents to move vehicles off the sides of roads. If a storm is forecast near your date, call us at (720) 297-9904; our office is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day. Local moves are billed by the hour, so a shoveled driveway and walk save you time.

Yes. The City of Boulder’s Gunbarrel plan calls the area around Lookout Road, Spine Road and 63rd Street a primary employment center, with research and development, light manufacturing and technical offices. Boulder County counts more than 9,800 people working in Gunbarrel. Office moves start with a free on-site walkthrough. Our crews disconnect computers at the old space and reconnect them at the new one, and we also move medical and lab equipment. That business area is inside Boulder city limits, so ask your building manager about loading areas and move hours before the walkthrough.

Yes. We provide certificates of insurance (COIs) for HOAs and buildings on request. Gunbarrel has plenty of associations; the City of Boulder’s Gunbarrel plan notes that most neighborhoods there have private HOA parks. Some covenants also limit vehicles on a lot. Heatherwood’s posted covenants for Filing 7, for example, say trailers and similar vehicles can’t stay on a lot for more than five days in a row unless they’re in a garage or fully screened from view. Ask your HOA or management company for its moving rules and the exact COI wording, then send both to us when you book.

No. We don’t charge stair, long-carry, disassembly or elevator fees. Local moves are billed by the hour under Fair Clock Pricing, unless we agree on a contract price. Gunbarrel homes vary: Gunbarrel Estates dates to the early 1960s and has many mid-century ranch homes, and the City’s Gunbarrel plan describes the neighborhoods around the business area as low-density residential. A basement stair or a long front walk still takes time, so show us the path from your door to the street in a walkthrough video on our quote form.

It can add time, so check the week before. CDOT’s CO 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway project runs from about Foothills Parkway to Hover Street and is scheduled to finish in spring 2027. At 63rd Street it adds bus rapid transit stations, a new Park-n-Ride on the west side of 63rd and a bikeway overpass, and CDOT posts weekly traffic impacts on its project page. Our office at 2115 W 14th Ave in Denver is about 33 miles from Gunbarrel by I-25, US 36 and the Diagonal. A drive-time charge covers the trip out and back, usually a half hour to an hour each way, depending on your address. Your quote, by phone or email, spells out every charge.

Yes. We offer same-day or next-day help moving furniture within a home, so a crew can clear rooms before the work starts and set them back up after. If the project runs long, we have short-term, climate-controlled storage for a few days to a few weeks. Check who issues your building permit, too: Boulder County’s Community Planning and Permitting Department handles permits in unincorporated Boulder County, and homes inside a city get them from that city. In Gunbarrel that’s the county for most houses and the City of Boulder for addresses inside city limits.
