How Much Do Movers Cost in Denver? Here’s How Our Pricing Works

How much do movers cost in Denver? At Fischer Van Lines LLC in Denver, local moves are billed by the hour at rates that never change, with the clock starting when our crew arrives at the job site, not when the truck leaves our office. There are no fluff fees for stairs, long carries, elevators, disassembly or weekends, and your free estimate spells out every charge: call (720) 297-9904.

This page shows how our pricing works, so you know what you’re paying for before you call.

How our hourly pricing works

We bill local moves by the hour. We call it Fair Clock Pricing, and here’s how it works:

  • Half-hour billing after the minimum. Once the minimum is met, time is billed by the half hour.
  • The clock starts when we arrive. Your time starts when our crew arrives at the job site, not when the truck leaves our office. Many movers start the clock at their office.
  • The clock stops when the job is done. Your time stops once the truck is empty, everything is moved in, the back of the truck is cleaned out and the gate is closed.
  • Winter Rates and Summer Rates. The season of your move date is part of your rate.
  • Holidays at time and a half. A move on a holiday is billed at time and a half.

How much do movers cost in Denver per hour?

Many factors go into our rates, so we don’t post them here, but we’re always happy to share yours. Unlike many movers, we don’t hide our rates: call (720) 297-9904, and we’ll give you your rate with a free quote.

The rates we quote never change. The estimate can vary, because it’s an estimate, not a contract price. Our estimates are usually right on when we know everything that’s moving, so please tell us about everything. To plan your day, see how long a move usually takes.

What affects the cost of your move

  • Home size. More rooms and more furniture take more time, and bigger jobs carry a higher minimum.
  • Crew size. A bigger crew costs more per hour but usually finishes sooner.
  • Truck size. Our trucks run 20, 26, 36 and 42 feet, and the truck that fits your home is part of your rate.
  • Access. Stairs, elevators and a long walk to the truck can add time, but never a fee.
  • Distance between homes. The drive from your old home to your new one is part of the job, so a longer drive adds time.
  • Packing. If you book our packing services, packing is billed by the hour, like the move.
  • Season. Winter Rates and Summer Rates go by your move date.
  • How ready you are. When everything is packed and taped before we arrive, the job takes less time.

No fluff fees

Some movers pad the bill with small add-on fees. We don’t charge:

  • Disassembly or reassembly fees
  • Stair fees
  • Long-carry fees (for the distance from your door to the truck)
  • Elevator fees
  • Weekend fees

Shrink wrap is free when we use it for its intended purpose: protecting light-colored cloth furniture. If you’d like rolls for other uses, they’re $75 a roll.

Complimentary moving-day wardrobe boxes on the truck: two on a 20-foot truck, three on a 26-foot truck and four on our 36- and 42-foot trucks. For anything else, ask us about packing materials.

Charges that can apply to bigger moves

A second truck adds a gas fee, and a two-day move has an overnight fee. Your quote spells out every charge that applies to your move.

Denver movers cost: compare the whole bill

Two movers can quote the same hourly rate and still send very different bills. When you compare quotes, ask each mover:

  • Does the clock start at the office or when the crew arrives?
  • What’s the minimum, and how is time billed after it?
  • How is drive time charged?
  • Are there fees for stairs, long carries, elevators, disassembly or weekends?

We may not be the cheapest, but every charge is in the quote, the rates we quote never change, and we stand behind our word. For more questions to ask, see our hidden moving fees guide.

Long-distance moves get a contract price

Long-distance moves work differently. They always get a contract price: a flat price agreed before moving day, not an hourly rate. Learn more about long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t you post your hourly rate?

Many factors go into our rates, so we don’t post one number here. We’re always happy to share yours, though. Call (720) 297-9904 or send a video walkthrough with our quote form, and we’ll give you a free quote with your rate and every charge.

Is there a minimum number of hours for a local move?

Yes. Every local move has a minimum, and it depends on the size of the job: bigger jobs have a higher minimum, and smaller jobs have a lower one. After the minimum is met, we bill by the half hour. Your quote shows the minimum for your move.

When does the clock start and stop, and do you charge for drive time?

The clock starts when our crew arrives at the job site, not when the truck leaves our office, and it stops once the truck is empty, everything is moved in, the back of the truck is cleaned out and the gate is closed. Drive time is always in the prices we quote, and we never hide it.

Do you charge extra for stairs, elevators or long carries?

No. We have no stair fees, no elevator fees and no long-carry fees for the walk from your door to the truck. Taking furniture apart and putting it back together has no fee either. These things can add time, but you pay for the time, not a fee.

Do movers cost more on weekends or holidays?

Not on weekends at Fischer Van Lines: we don’t charge weekend fees. Holidays are billed at time and a half. We also have Winter Rates and Summer Rates, so your move date is part of the price.

Do movers charge for estimates?

Not at Fischer Van Lines. Estimates are free, by phone, by video walkthrough or in person. Your quote spells out every charge before moving day.

Can my price change on moving day?

The rates we quote never change. The estimate can vary, because it’s an estimate, not a contract price. Our estimates are usually right on when we know everything that’s moving, so please tell us about everything. Long-distance moves get a contract price.

What forms of payment do you take?

Our merchant service takes all forms of payment except personal checks. A check can go through the merchant’s instant check deposit, which carries a 5% fee.

Do you offer discounts for military, veterans, students or seniors?

Yes. College and university students, active-duty service members, veterans (with or without a disability), Guard and Reserve members, military spouses and retirees, and seniors 65 and older get 15% off all our services with valid ID.
