After Gold was discovered in Colorado in 1858 and over 100,000 people flooded into Colorado over the next few years, according to local legend, Alfred Butters built a tiny one-room building in the pines just south of present-day Parker in 1864. Named the "Pine Grove Way Station" Mr. Butters handled mail, provided meals, provisions and a place to leave messages for travelers. Pine Grove soon became a refuge for travelers. The building has since been moved to its current location on Mainstreet.
